After having an international hit in 1975 with their debut single, I'm On Fire, the Dwight Twilley Band became caught up in record company hassles. They finally got back on track with the release of their classic second album, Twilley Don't Mind, in September 1977.

Originally broadcasted on WYSP-FM, this superb live set at the Main Point, Bryn Mawr, PA on November 10th of that year, captures them at their early best (shortly before the departure of Phil Seymour)

Produced by Neil Geraldo, best known for his work as Pat Benatar's guitarist (Benatar sings backup on one track), Johnny Comes Marching Home sounds a lot brighter and more engaging than the group's debut, and the band, seasoned by plenty of roadwork, sounds tighter and firmer without sacrificing any of their swing in the process. But while the band rocks harder under Geraldo's guidance, the production also boasts many of the unfortunate hallmarks of mid-'80s record production; everything is dripping with digital reverb, and the mixes often sound like they've been processed and filtered within an inch of their life. It's a testament to the band's strength that despite the Lucite sheen of the mix, Johnny Comes Marching Home still sounds like a tougher and more muscular album than the debut, with the guitars of Scott Kempner and Eric "Roscoe" Ambel cutting deeper, their vocals registering with greater emotional impact, and Frank Funaro's drums sounding a hell of a lot livelier. And Kempner's songwriting continued to shine, especially on the anthemic "Heaven," the rock & roll radio tribute "St. Jake," and the rockabilly on steroids wrap-up "No Waitress No More."

The Odd Numbers - The Oddyssey

Hailing from San Jose, Ca. The Odd Numbers started out in 1988. They are mostly labelled as a Mod band but you can also hear other influences in their sound like powerpop, punk or rhythm n blues. 

After 30 years of existence, the trio released its fifth and probably best album so far, The Oddyssey. The band never sounded any better and This new record is filled to the rafters with catchy tunes.

So it was time for this blog to have an interesting conversation with singer guitar player Dave Baisa.

1) What can you tell about The Odd Numbers today? Who is playing what instrument in the band?

 We've just put out our 5th LP called the Oddyssey. My name is Dave Baisa and I play guitar, sing and write most of the stuff. Dave miller plays bass and sings and Dave Conrad plays drums and sings back ups.

2) About the latest full length record "The Oddyssey",  what can you tell about the recording process? Was this a "live" in the studio recording or a track by track recording with lots of overdubs?

It's kind of a live process. We start out with drums and guitar live and get a good take. Then put on the bass and start overdubbing everything else. We took our time on this one. We found a great little studio in our neighborhood and just worked on it for like 6 months.

3) Do you consider it should be foolish not to use the nowadays recording technology or do you guys only work with analog machines in analog studios?

This is the first record we've ever done all digital. We've used pro tools before but we'd record to tape then put it in pro tools. I've gotta say I'm digging digital now. if you process it right it sounds great! I would still probably prefer 2" tape but it's what ever your into. there's a lot of ways to get a good recording these days. Shit use your phone!

4) Is there a main composer in the band or is everybody involved in one way or another?

I write most of the songs but Dave Miller has written a hand full of them over the years. he's got 2 on the new record.

5) About the new record "The Oddyssey", can you explain the title? Is it just a little joke or is there a deeper meaning to it? And what's the connection with the artwork on the front cover? 

Its obviously a play on our name but this band has been on somewhat of a odyssey. We've been together for 30 years now and we've seen a lot over that time, been involved in a lot of cool things. Its been a long rock n roll journey! The artwork is something I painted about 15 years ago. It was hanging on the wall in the garage and I thought, that will work! Everybody likes a little Jackson Pollack right!?

6) The Odd Numbers are described by some people as a "mod" band. Do you agree with this label? Are you proud of it or do you consider there is way more than that?

We started out a mod band and we will end a mod band! In the beginning it gave us a great look and direction and we thought we were pretty cool! We owe just as much to the punk scene though, and Skateboarding!

7) Do you have a new video on youtube  featuring a track from the new LP??  

We do have a video up for the song "Midway" its our first ever instrumental song! There will be more to come. We also just did a taped acoustic performance for KFOG thats on youtube.

8) What can concert goers expect at a The Odd Numbers gig? Are you playing any famous cover songs? 
You can expect some of the old and some of the new. We've got a pretty big catalog now so its fun to pick the set. As for covers you might hear something from the Jam or the Clash or something of that era, Maybe something motown.

9) Is there still a mod scene in California today?

Truthfully I don't know. I know theres still a scooter scene but I don't think theres anything going on like San Diego in the early 80"s and Berkley in the late 80's early 90"s.

10) Anything you wanna add? 

The world's a pretty messed up place right now. Sometimes you gotta just pop a record on and forget about it. Hopefully ours!

Drummer and singer-songwriter Phil Seymour came on the scene with a Top 20 hit with the Dwight Twilley Band called "I'm On Fire" in 1975. After two albums with his Tulsa band-mate, Phil decided to go solo and landed a hit single of his own called "Precious To Me" on his self-titled 1980 debut album on Boardwalk Records label.

Before that Phil experimented with various musicians in the studio including singing background vocals on Tom Petty's "Breakdown"and "American Girl" and played around Los Angeles in the burgeoning live music scene of the late 1970s.

The London and Los Angeles Unreleased Sessions, Volume 4 features two of these recording sessions that took place in this era - one in London with legendary UK session guitarist Chris Spedding, and one in Los Angeles where he was backed by Steve Allen and Ron Flynt of the band 20/20!

Eric Knoxx presents

By public demand, I finally decided to gather an album of some covers I played with the various bands I was in. 

Chronologically speaking, it all began in 1991 with The Vice Barons. If everything goes according to the plan, the long awaited come back album should finally see the daylight in 2018. 

In 1998, I moved on to form The Mighty Gordinis that lasted till 2008. I'm still quite proud of the 2 last cds we put out, the fully instrumental, named "Fueled on Fuzz", and the very last one, "The Future Looks Like Yesterday", which is still my personal favorite. 

After that, with my pal Vincenzo we put up The Ratboys. Shortly after the release of the Ratboys' debut album "Cash, gas and Trash" we started to work on new songs for a second album but it appeared that all the songs were more 60's garage influenced and would not fit under the Ratboys moniker. 

So we decided to release it under the name Thee Martian Boyfriends. Unfortunately we got kicked out of our rehearsal space and lost the keyboard player around the same time, so that was more or less the end of it. 

In 2013, a short lived band named Syster Hyde rose from the ashes of a Vice Barons reunion gig but nothing came out of it except this Kraftwerk song which was later covered instrumentally for the The Vice Barons album to come. 

Finally, in 2016, I released under the Moniker The Backseat Angels what appeared to be a solo record.

The Rationals were one of the greatest Midwestern bands of their day (1965-1970), and leader and vocalist Scott Morgan blended blue-eyed soul and hard rock commitment as well as anyone you can name. Medium Rare: 1970-2000 brings together 13 rare and unreleased Morgan cuts that begin with the waning days of the Rationals (an impossibly soulful take of "Zip a Dee Doo Dah" from 1970; there are also three potent performances from a 1991 Rationals reunion), and stretches right up to 2000, with a demonic guitar-fueled rocker called "Satisfyer" (it lives up to its title). In between, Morgan jumps, shouts, and knocks everyone out with gutsy R&B and high-octane rock & roll tunes that showcase his strong pipes, tough guitar work, and smart/witty/streetwise point of view. Released in 1985  Boston, Mass was their first national album, and it still holds up next to any band of today. Almost every song of the ten is a keeper. "Don't Run Wild" is the big hit, but the entire album is great. The other Fuegos albums are great but this is THE one to have.It has all the raw energy that all the best and essential rock and roll records have and there isn't a bad song.

Formed in 1980, the Del Fuegos consisted of guitarist and singer Dan Zanes, his brother Warren Zanes on guitar, bassist Tom Lloyd, and drummer Steve Morrell. Steady gigging on the Boston club circuit won the band a potent local reputation, which began to spread along the East Coast with the band's first few low-budget tours. While the Del Fuegos began recording an album for legendary local label Ace of Hearts Records, in 1984 the famed Los Angeles indie Slash Records stepped in and signed them, releasing their first album, "The Longest Day", in the fall of that year.

By this time, Steve Morrell had parted ways with the band, and former Embarrassment percussionist Woody Giessmann had taken over the drum kit. One of the first albums produced by former Ronnie Montrose keyboard man Mitchell Froom, The Longest Day's mixture of attitude, guitar firepower, and heart-on-the-sleeve emotion clicked with both critics and fans, and the Del Fuegos seemed poised for a commercial breakthrough with their second album, 1985's "Boston, Mass".

"Silvaticus" is the sophomore full length by UK's garage/beat quartet THE BARON FOUR.
Tracked at State Records’ 8-track recording facility in glorious mono, these 12 tracks demonstrate the band’s ability to combine gritty R&B-based material with garage-punk raunch, capturing at least some of their raw, live, chaotic energy onto tape.Ten new, original songs by singer/bassist Mike Whittaker and two covers: the recently unearthed “Wild Angel” by James Bond & The Agents from 1967, and a reworking of the Bo Diddley classic “I Can Tell”

1) For the viewers of this blog who don't know you, What would you tell about The Baron Four to introduce yourselves? How long are you guys together as a band? And what can you tell us about the origins of the band's name? Who is playing what instrument in the band?

Well The Baron Four are a band. Hopefully a good band but it's not for me to say... We enjoy playing music a lot and have been doing it for around 4 years now (i'm guessing).

The band is: Mike - Bass / Main Vocals; Joe - Guitar / Vocals; Kev - Guitar / Vocals; Mole - Drums / Vocals

2) The Baron Four are described by some people as a 60's garage band à la BACK FROM THE GRAVE. Do you agree with this description or do you consider there is way more than that? 

I'd like to think there is a lot more to it than that! But we can't hide influences and I suppose it's not at all a bad thing to have that defined sound as that's certainly a sound we all love. To be honest I don't like to be put in a box but it's obviously going to happen and can understand that. Next record i'm thinking to do 70s disco to throw people off!

3) About the latest full length record "Silvaticus",  what can you tell about the recording process? Was this a live in the studio recording or a track by track recording with lots of overdubs? 

It was recorded live at our drummers recording studio (State Recordings) well actually I say studio, he has actually built one now but at this time it was in his living room. So let me start again... we recorded the album in our drummers living room. It was all live except for vocals which were done after. It took 1 day to get it done.

4) Is there a main composer in the band or is everybody involved in one way or another?

Well I write all the songs at the moment but everybody is definitely involved, usually I write all songs on my own and come into practise with it but when it comes together it definitely falls into it's own. There are a little bits here and there which definitely adds massively to the songs.

5) To what kind of music did you listen to as a teenager and does it still influence your today work? What was your favourite band as a teenager? Name 3 bands that you consider still have an influence on your own work today.

As a teenager I loved a lot of pop punk, Greenday is one to name, The Hives were the greatest thing ever to me when they came around and then moved onto british punk (The clash, the damned etc) - that stuff has definitely stayed with me as I still listen to a lot of that today. My dad was playing the velvet underground to me when i was a kid growing up so that would have to be one of the biggest influences to stay with me.

6) Do you have a video on youtube featuring a track from the latest release? 

7) What can concert goers expect at a gig of The Baron Four? Besides "I can tell", Are you playing any famous cover songs?

Expect the unexpected. Sometimes it will go well but sometimes everything will just kind of collapse after all our leads are fucked... its normally wild and fun though!

8) How did you guys end up on the BEAT SCENE '65 compilation on Alley Club Records?

I literally have no idea.

9) What are the plans for the rest of 2018 as far as The Baron Four are concerned? Are you guys planning to tour Europe soon to promote this latest released record?

We have a few things lined up, the next gig is with The Mummies which should be a lot of fun @ The 229 Venue on 31st March. After that we are in Hamburg playing Garageville in April, we also are going to South of France for a couple of gigs in June but all details aren't yet confirmed.

New Guitars In Town, released in 1980 on Beggars Banquet, was a joined effort of Pete Stride of The Lurkers and John Plain of The Boys with the help of some friends.

One of the highlights of this very enjoyable album is the cover of Sonny Bono's "Laugh At Me" that was released as the album's sole single.

Last week I purchased a copy of this album for 2 euros in a second hand store downtown. I decided to rip it for the blog when I realised the job had already been perfectly done by Angelo for PPC.

Since the link is dead on his blog, I hope he won't mind if I publish it here again. All the credit goes to him.

Berwanger And The Star Invaders

Josh BERWANGER released last year his third and best record so far. Besides some great hitting  rockers like "The Star Invaders", "Stop Believing" or "Cheap Thrills" this amazing album contains some of the most beautiful songs ever written by mankind like "The Astronaut", "Broken Moon" or "She Still Lives In Me". This record is on heavy rotation in the rathouse since it got here and this blog can only highly recommand it!

1) For the viewers of this blog What would you tell about your latest full length "The Star Invaders"? As far as I'm concerned I'd say it has globaly a more laidback feeling. The word that comes to mind when I listen to it is: "nostalgia". Do you agree with this?

Yeah I can agree with your thoughts on the album. I was going through a really rough time. During this time I was at the ocean with my family and one night a UFO appeared and out of curiosity I ran to them in hopes of being abducted to another place. By the time I got as close as I could they were gone. That was the main spark for the album, not feeling you belong anywhere.

2) What can you tell about the recording process? Was this a live in the studio recording or a track by track recording with lots of overdubs? 

A lot of the basic tracks for Exorcism Rock were recorded live. For The Star Invaders, I had a lot of different musicians play on the album so I was flying them in due to schedules did drums and guitars live, and then Eva Gardner came in a did drums over that. So we just started going track by track from there. A lot of overdubs on this album but a few songs that were a bit stripped down like "I'm A Loser" and "She Still Lives In Me" but then you have "The Cage with the Golden Bars" which has the most tracks i've ever used on an album.

3) Who is the creator of this wonderful artwork, that perfectly fits the overall feeling of the record?

Andy Walsh did the main art and Haunt Love aka Justin Miller did an amazing job with the type and layout of everything else. Two super talented artist who it was an honor getting to work with. I don't know if I freakout more about the music or art for an album, either way they are both as important as the other.

4) Do you have a video on youtube featuring a track from the latest release?  

I have two videos out right now and a third video for The Star Invaders coming out in the next few months. "Horror Show" I made on the Super Nintendo using the game Mario Paint, it took me over 50 hours to make.

I also made "She Still Lives in Me" which is just pretty basic video made on my VHS camera.

Uncle Dad Productions made the yet to be released Star Invaders video and it's a trip!

5) What are the plans for the rest of 2018? Are you planning to tour Europe soon to promote this latest released record? 

I have 3 records I am trying to record. I would love to tour Europe! It's been a goal to do that since Anniversary toured there. We haven't had the chance to do so. I really don't even know how to go about it. So as of now we have no plans of touring at all.

Scots Pirates were a reunion group of sorts of some of the most notable alumni of the '60s Michigan rock scene, particularly guitarist/singer Scott Morgan (the Rationals) and drummer Scott Asheton (the Stooges). The band also included bassist Gary Rasmussen (Up), who, with Morgan, Asheton, and the late Fred "Sonic" Smith, played in Sonic's Rendezvous Band.

Revolutionary Means (1995) was their last effort, and finds them playing straight rock with soul influences, in a manner consistent with the ethos established by the Stooges, MC5, and Sonic's Rendezvous Band.


Allan Crockford is not only bassist extraordinaire for Graham Day and The Forefathers (and before that for the Prisoners, Prime Movers, Solarflares), he is also the master brain behind The Galileo 7 where he reveals himself as a very fine guitar player, a brilliant lead singer and subtil composer of all of the songs. 
THE GALILEO 7 latest full length, “TEAR YOUR MINDS WIDE OPEN!” is released on the very fine Damaged Goods records label.

1) For the viewers of this blog who don't know you, What would you tell about THE GALILEO 7 to introduce yourselves? How long are you guys together as a band? And what can you tell us about the origins of the band's name? Who is playing what instrument in the band?

Our current line-up is Allan Crockford (me) on vocals and guitar, Viv Bonsels – organs and vocals, Paul Moss, bass and vocals, and Mole on drums and vocals.
The band started in 2010. Over the years (since the 80’s) I’d been in loads of bands – playing bass in The Prisoners, James Taylor Quartet, Prime Movers, Solarflares, Headcoats, and guitar in Goodchilde and The Stabilisers (amongst a lot others…) but I’d never been the main songwriter and singer. I’d been involved in about 30+ albums and singles, but only as a band member. I finally decided that the time was right to give it a shot – I’d built up a stockpile of songs over the preceding 3 or 4 years. The first album ‘Are we having fun yet?’ was the first album and it came out at the end of 2010. Since then we’ve had a few line-ups, but the current one really brings the best out of the songs. The name of the band is an episode of the original series of ‘Star Trek’… I just thought it sounded like a good name for a band. I originally used the name for my solo demos before we got together.

2) THE GALILEO 7 are described by some people as a 60's garage/psych band. Do you agree with this description or do you consider there is way more than that?  

I suppose the influences are obviously 60’s psych-pop and garage, but I hope we bring something different and contemporary to the songs, rather than just doing a pastiche. I don’t try to rip anything off, but it’s difficult not show your influences sometimes. People are very interested in references when describing music, and I don’t mind people saying we remind them of certain bands (especially if we like the band!), but I hope the quality of the songs stands separately from the sound or influences. I think it’s just Pop music, in the old sense.

3) About the full length record "Tear Your Minds Wide Open",  what can you tell about the recording process? Was this a live in the studio recording or a track by track recording with lots of overdubs?

We recorded the basic tracks (drums, bass, rhythm guitar) live in the place we rehearse, which was in a friend’s lithographic printing business – surrounded by printing machinery and bales of paper! We rehearsed there for years, and made most of our records in this way. That was why the ‘live in the studio’ album ‘Live-O-Graphic’ had that title (I thought it was funny.. for 5 minutes). We record onto a portable 8 track recorder then transfer the tracks onto my computer at home for overdubbing the vocals, keyboards, percussion and any solos etc. It’s not a unique process (apart from the location) – many artists record this way now, especially if they don’t have a budget for recording. It’s the cheapest way to do it. Now we have to move out of the printers, but Mole has had a small recording/rehearsal studio built in his garden and we’ll probably do it there in future. As well as being our drummer and bassist of The Embrooks, he is also State Records, and occasionally engineers and produces sessions for bands in his home studio. ‘Making records that sound like records’!

4) It seems that you are the main composer in the band but what is the involvement of the other members as far as arrangements of the songs are concerned?

I am the main composer, but everyone in the band contributes to the arrangements in some way, but the extent depends on the original demo. In the early days, I made extremely detailed demos of new songs, and generally the band just learnt directly from them. Now I try to leave the demos quite rough to allow everyone to contribute their own personality and ideas to the finished arrangement. It’s quite difficult for me to leave the demos unfinished because I love making them, but it’s no coincidence that we make better records when everyone contributes to the song.

5) To what kind of music did you listen to as a teenager and does it still influence your today work? What was your favourite band as a teenager? Name 3 bands that you consider still have an influence on your own work today.

I suppose the same music as a lot of people who make our sort of music, no surprises. The Beatles, Small Faces, Kinks, The Who, Pink Floyd from the classic years, XTC, The Jam, The Stranglers, and lots of punk rock/new wave from the years we grew up in. From there it was into the more obscure acts that never made it, but left behind a few nuggets for us to discover…. I still listen to all those acts now, plus all the obscure stuff that keeps turning up. I also try to listen to newer acts who manage to capture the excitement of those old records, like King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Tame Impala and Soundtrack of Our Lives (not so new maybe!). I try not to be influenced by anyone specifically now, but I guess all those years of listening to The Nazz and other psych-rock acts has just soaked into my brain.

7) What can concert goers expect at a gig of GALILEO 7? Are you playing any famous cover songs?

You can always expect lots of energy and lots of noise! We do play some covers, but it depends how the gig is going… We have been playing ‘Astronomy Domine’ (Pink Floyd) recently, as well as ‘Tinker Tailor’ (Terry Reid). In the past we’ve played, ‘Circle Sky’ (Monkees), Reynard the fox’ (Julian Cope), ‘Him or me’ (Paul Revere), ‘Tattoo’ (The Who), ‘Kingdom of Love’ (Soft Boys), but generally we try to mostly stick to our original material. Covers can be fun to play, and a short cut to get an audience reaction, but mostly we’re there to play our own songs…

8) On the 2014 release "False Memory Lane", Mole was still playing bass and I noticed that on the new record he moved to the drummer seat. What can you tell us about this switch in position inside the band? Was this his personal decision or a mutual decision? 

It was originally just circumstances that forced the switch. Our original drummer Russ wasn’t going to be available to play for a long time because of his commitments to Secret Affair. We didn’t want to stop playing – ‘False Memory Lane’ had just been released and we wanted to promote it if we could. We were a bit stuck, but then Paul Moss (our original bassist) said he could come back to the band and allow Mole to switch to drums. This worked out well because not only did both of them already know the songs, it was also obvious from the first rehearsal that this line-up of the band just had something extra. More energy, more spark, more excitement, more of everything. The band just started to kick some arse properly! As soon as we’d finished the first gig with this line-up, it was obvious that it had stay together. Luckily all four of us agreed that this was something special.

9) What are the plans for the rest of 2018 as far as GALILEO 7 are concerned? Are you guys planning to tour Europe soon to promote this newly released vinyl record? 

We don’t have an agent and we have to fit in our gigs around our personal commitments –it’s quite hard to get us together for more than a dozen gigs a year. It doesn’t get easier to find gigs, but we’re always open to interesting suggestions from venues, promoters, festivals and other bands. In this scene the bands are reliant on direct contact from people who already like the music. We love playing outside of the UK – anyone wants us to play just get in touch! We have 4 gigs in France in April – more details when we have them.

10) Anything you wanna add?

FAZ WALTZ - Julie / I'm Bleedin' (Single)

Our favorite Italian glam trio FAZ WALTZ was in T.U.P. Studio, Brescia (Italy) last November to record a new album containing 10 new songs written and composed by Faz La Rocca. The Mastering was done by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room (U.S.A.).

The forthcoming album is due to be released somewhere around April 2018 but a single (Julie/I'm Bleeding) is already out. The B-side is exclusive to this release.

The A-side, Julie is an infectious tune and I've been told that the single has been aired many times so far by  Rodney Bingenheimer on Little Steven's Underground Garage Radio show.

CATZILLA - S/T album

Hailing from Perth, Australia CATZILLA is an amazing garage/pop combo featuring Coo Jarvis on lead vocals, keys & percussion; Andy Jarvis on guitar & backing vocals; Tracey Devery on bass & backing vocals and Trevor Judd on drums.

The quartet's debut long player is the ideal mix between brilliant infectious pop tunes (think Blondie's first album in 1976!) and fuzzed-out stompin' garage. As the band states it itself, this is the perfect soundtrack for your next go go party!

So it was time for this blog to have a very interesting chat with guitar player ANDY JARVIS.

1) For the viewers of this blog that don't know you, What would you tell about CATZILLA to introduce yourselves? How long are you guys and girls together as a band? Were you in other bands previously? Who is playing what instrument in the band? What can you tell about the origins of the band's name?

CATZILLA has been together for nearly 3 years. Coo plays keys and is the lead singer, Andy is on guitar and backing vocals, Tracey on bass, backing vocals and monkey noises and Trev is on the jungle drums. We had a band called Rocket To Memphis (2005-2013 - kinda swampy, voodoo rock n roll). It split when the drummer moved to Melbourne and we decided to do something a little different, more along the 60s garage lines. The new name was inspired by a crazy toy we found in Japan, like Godzilla but with a cat’s head!

CATZILLA recorded a 4 track vinyl EP (“Going Wild”) in 2016 and mixed it with Matt Verta-Ray in NYC. We’d done the last two Rocket albums with Matt and really like working with him. Last year we toured in Japan and had the honor of playing at one of the Back From the Grave events in Tokyo and also with the Neatbeats in Osaka.

2) About the recently self titled debut record,  what can you tell about the recording process? Was this a live in the studio recording or a track by track recording with lots of overdubs? 

It was very much a live recording in the studio. We all love working that way and with this kind of music, really believe it’s best way to get the right sound. We over-dubbed the Hammond for logistical reasons (it was in another studio!) but there were very few other overdubs.

3) To what kind of music did you listen to as a teenager and does it still influence your today work? What was your favorite band as a teenager? Name 3 bands that you consider still have a influence on your own work today.

We all grew up listening to punk and post-punk stuff and I’m sure some of that still shines through
now! Coo and I had a band in Sydney, in the mid-late 80s (Toys Went Berserk) which was more along those lines - from more off-kilter sounds like Siouxsie & the Banshees to catchier things like early Blondie. The Cramps probably still have an influence on us now, along with Link Wray, the Sonics and in general, 60s garage, beat and surf.

4) Some people people might be tempted to describe CATZILLA as a 60's garage/pop band. Do you agree with this description or do you consider there is way more than that?

I think that’s a pretty fair description! We sometimes call it "gogo rock n roll" - it’s 60s-inspired, catchy, fuzzed-up and fun!

5) Is there a main composer in the band or is everybody involved in one way or another?

I write most of the songs (Andy) but Coo has written lyrics and music on several tracks on the new album. Everyone contributes their own parts to the final arrangements.

6) Do you have a video on youtube featuring a track from the latest release?

7) What can concert goers expect at a gig of CATZILLA? Are you playing any famous cover songs?

We play mostly originals, with just a few covers - maybe not super well-known ones though… a favourite is “Kitty Kitty” by Floyd Dakil (who also did “Dance Franny Dance”). We recorded a version of that on the album.

8) Perth seems to have a long history of rock bands (The Stems, The Stanleys, The Volcanics, etc ....)  is CATZILLA in connection with all these guys? And is there something special in the air in Perth that pushes people to start rock bands?

You’re right Eric! Also the Scientists, Hoodoo Gurus and many others. I think maybe there’s something in the beer actually! We know quite a few of these musicians of course - it’s a pretty small scene here. Perth is actually one of the most isolated cities in the world - perhaps that’s why?

9) What are the plans for the rest of 2018 as far as CATZILLA is concerned? Are you planning to tour Europe soon to promote this newly released record? 

We’re playing as much as we can locally at the moment and we’ll hopefully get over to Sydney and Melbourne later this year (it’s 5 hour’s flight away, if you’re wondering why I say “hopefully”!). Next year, we’d like to get back to Japan but if someone is willing to fly us over to Europe, that would be fab!

10) Anything you would like to say to the viewers of this blog?

During the 1980s, Morgan formed the Scott Morgan Band, which occasionally played in the Ann Arbor/Detroit area. In 1988, his band released an album entitled "Rock Action," which found Morgan (guitar and vocals) backed up by ex-Sonic's Rendezvous bassist Gary Rasmussen and ex-Stooges drummer Scott (aka "Rock Action") Asheton. The trio later toured in America under the name Scotts Pirates, which took its name from Morgan's song "Pirate Music," and released their self-titled album in 1993. It was followed up with the record "Revolutionary Means" in 1996.

Real Tears - Too cool to rock

THE REAL TEARS from Uppsala, Sweden are the rock'n'roll best kept secret with the best guitar sound in years. And they write songs like no one else. 

Just listen to "Bad Girl", that's an anthem for generations to come and a lesson in songwriting. Simple and memorable at the same time! 

This blog HAD to interview those 4 crazy dudes from way up North!

1) For the viewers of this blog who don't know you, What would you tell about THE REAL TEARS  to introduce yourselves? How did you meet and decided to start a band together? Who is playing what instrument in the band?
A: Real Tears is a bunch of rock n roll pleasure avoiders trying to enjoy the void. We’ve got Victor from Horbo city spankin’ skin. Gasse is knocking up the bass like a refrigerator turning into a nuclear reactor. Behind the curtains of Burt Cocaine, Jöge is rubbing his six string dagger across the eternal crime scene. Singing like a near extinct castrated electric eel in the muddy Fyris river is, Rune.
It all started when Rune and Jöge were living on Finnish brown leather sofas in our rehearsal space called the beavers alley. We had different bands going but figured it was time to start one together. We never thought that respected journalists would ask us to be in their well knows magazine.
Anyway, riffs and melodies we’re scattered all over the place like silverfishes waiting to be recognised. We caught a few, killed a few.

2) About your debut full length record released on Snask Rekårds!, what can you tell about the recording process? Was this a live in the studio recording or a track by track recording with lots of overdubs? 
A: Before this we had made a lot of dirty recordings on an 8-track tape recorder, the machine was a total wreck. All we had beside that was a cheap 8 input soundcard, some weird external preamps and a bunch of basic microphones. We had a pretty clear idea how the songs should sound like but understood we couldn’t do it live. The room was probably big enough but there we’re too many beer cans lying around. Back then we were only a three piece. Jöge, Rune and Rotten Mind-singer Jakob on drums. We tracked drums together with one guitar played by Rune. The basic melody was there but most lyrics were missing (from our memory). We lived by the concept that everything is forgotten, we only had to remember it. After that we added bass, a second guitar and bongo drums on the song Beersday (can you hear them?). We headed straight to the pub. When we woke up in our designated sleepingstations, we used the next six months to remember the lyrics and record vocals. We headed straight to the pub.

3) What are your favorite topics to write about or the topics that come easily when you write a new song?
A: Girls…and some good ol nights when we had a few beerzzZZZzz…

4) THE REAL TEARS have an undeniable Scandinavian approach of power pop/punk that could lead to compare you to The Yum Yums, The Basement Brats, etc. Do you agree with this comparison or do you consider there is way more than that? 
A: The Yum Yums and the Basement Brats sound like they could be two killer bands man, but we’re sorry to say we actually never heard them. Thanks for the tip though!The Scandinavian sound is hard to define for us. We listen to everything that comes our way, some times the worse the better. Btw, as for swedish bands, we wouldn’t mind being compared to a powerpop band called Rottweiler from the 70s.

5) Is there a main composer in the band or is everybody composing his own songs (words and music)?
A: Singer Rune and Guitarist Jöge writes all the songs. It usually starts with one of us trying to fool the other one they have a good riff going. It always sucks in the beginning, but the counterpart is too nice to say something negative about it. Add some mojo and some attitude. Play it twenty times. Then there you have it. Some times it’s just as easy to fool someone else as it is to fool yourself. In the rehearsal space or at the pub. Hey! I left my wallet at home.

6) To what kind of music did you listen to as a teenager and does it still influence your today work? What was your favorite band as a teenager? Name 3 bands that you consider still have a influence on your own work today.
A: Rune: I listened to Manowar, but they had no influence on me, maybe just miserable.
Jöge: I always listened to Kiss, still my favorite band.
Gasse is a total ragger. He’s an encyclopaedia of old american cars and reatarded punkbands.
Victor played peoples pants off since he was 10 years old. No need for influences.
If there’s one band we all would agree influenced us all, it would be the GIZMOS.

7) Do you have a video on youtube featuring a track from the latest release? 
A: Yes. The first track on the LP is also the first song we made. It’s called ”Can’t Get You Outta My Head”. We don’t really know what it’s about, but it is some kinda love song. It’s recorded in the beavers alley with an old VHS camera. We bought the camera from an old guy called Börje, including his rather exotic tapes. The outcome is inspired of what we saw.

8) What can concert goers expect at a gig of THE REAL TEARS? Are you playing any famous cover songs?
A: Expect to see us struggle, but the struggle is rejuvenating. We’re always thankful to get a chance to play, so we bring a good mood. We give it all, never leaving a glass empty, or full. We have not yet played any cover song. Our songs are total rip-offs anyway…HAH! Gasse is a total ragger.

9) What are the plans for 2018 as far as THE REAL TEARS are concerned? Are you guys planning to tour Europe soon? 
A: So far we’ve played a few shows in Finland, Germany and Italy. All highlights for sure. Would love to do it all over again. Invite us please!The plan is to make another record. And we will play a few shows in Scandinavia. But we suck at organising stuff. Also, every time a new Real Tears record is made a baby is born, literally speaking. So let’s hope for the best!
